Kai Strittmatter

Kai Strittmatter has studied China for more than 30 years. As a student of Sinology he first lived in China and Taiwan in the mid-1980s. Later he worked in Beijing for 16 years as a correspondent for the German national broadsheet Sueddeutsche Zeitung SZ. He is the author of several books on China, Hong Kong and Istanbul, most recently „We have been harmonised. Life in China’s Surveillance State“ (Custom House) where he explores the invention of digital totalitarianism. Currently he lives in Copenhagen as a correspondent for SZ.
